Zendaya is proud of how Tom Holland has carried Spider-Man into his ā€œreal life.ā€

The actress shared that her husband, and costar, handles the weight of the role ā€œwith such grace.ā€

She also noted that Holland cares so much about the character and his responsibility to Peter Parker.

Zendaya is so proud of the way her husband, Tom Holland, has handled becoming Spider-Man—on and off the screen.

The actress, who has played Spidey’s love interest MJ in the Marvel franchise since 2017, spoke to Rotten Tomatoes about Holland’s passion for the character and how he emulates Spider-Man’s aura in ā€œreal life.ā€

ā€œMy favorite thing about Tom’s Spider-Man is how Tom handles Spider-Man outside of Spider-Man,ā€ Zendaya said as Holland sat next to her in the interview. ā€œSo many people connect to this character, to Peter Parker’s Spider-Man, and especially young people, especially children, and I think that he’s just handled that weight with such grace.ā€

Zendaya also noted that Holland ā€œreally loves and cares so much about the character and what the character means to other people.ā€

She added that the role, as with many other superhero characters, comes with the responsibility of knowing that ā€œwhen you are in front of these kids, you are Spider-Man.ā€

ā€œYou are this person to them,ā€ Zendaya continued, turning to Holland directly. ā€œI just love seeing what and how you carry Spider-Man through your life in real life.ā€

Holland has spoken about the pressure to return as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which just achieved a historic $927 million global opening weekend.

Holland told Kino TV that, following the success of the previous films—including Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home as well as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame—he began to understand the ā€œstakes and the scope and scaleā€ of the role.

ā€œAfter the third movie came out, making this film was the most nervous I’d been stepping onto set as Spider-Man,ā€ he told the outlet last month. ā€œBut you know, it’s been quadruply fulfilling because of those nerves.ā€

Zendaya added that the pair have gained ā€œwisdomā€ over the years after signing on to play these characters when they were ā€œliteral infant[s].ā€

The pair were both 19 years old when they took on their roles in the MCU. Holland is now 30, and Zendaya turns 30 on Sept. 1.

ā€œAlso, for me at least, from the inside but also from the outside in some kind of way, it’s been nice to be able to see [Tom] kind of really take even more ownership of the films and the character,ā€ she explained, looking at Holland, ā€œand really put so much of yourself into it.ā€

Holland chimed in to say that, when he was a kid playing Spider-Man, he was just ā€œgassedā€ about the opportunity. Now, he feels the weight of it all as well as the joy.

ā€œThese movies are something that we absolutely loved making, and the opportunity and responsibility is something that we’ve never taken for granted,ā€ Holland told Kino TV. ā€œI hope people look back on this time, like, ā€˜Oh, this was a really fun time.ā€™ā€

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now in theaters.
