Elon Musk is the dad of 14 children whom he welcomed with four different women.

The Tesla founder first became a father with his ex-wife, Justine Wilson. The former couple welcomed six children between 2002 and 2006, including their first son, Nevada, who died at 10 weeks old.

More than a decade later, Musk began having more children. He and singer-songwriter Grimes welcomed a son in 2020 and had two more children in the years to follow. During that time, Musk also welcomed twins with Neuralink Corp. director Shivon Zilis in 2021, followed by two more children together.

In February 2025, author Ashley St. Clair announced on X that she and Musk had welcomed a child in late 2024. Later that same month, St. Clair sued Musk for sole legal custody and filed a paternity petition, and Zilis announced that she and Musk had welcomed their fourth child.

More recently, Wilson claimed in Alex Gibney’s upcoming documentary, Musk, that the mothers of Musk’s children have been referred to as “breeders” by the Tesla founder. Then, on Oct. 2, Zilis revealed in a lengthy post on X that Musk abruptly broke up with her. (Representatives for Musk did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s requests for comment. Zilis couldn’t be reached.)

Musk and his ex-wife, Justine Wilson, got married in 2000 and divorced in 2008. They welcomed six kids together: Nevada Alexander, Vivian Jenna, Griffin, Kai, Saxon and Damian.

In 2002, the pair welcomed their first baby, Nevada Alexander, who died from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) at 10 weeks old. Wilson, a Canadian author, penned an essay forMarie Claire in September 2010 about the experience.

“I buried my feelings ... coping with Nevada’s death by making my first visit to an IVF clinic less than two months later. Elon and I planned to get pregnant again as swiftly as possible. Within the next five years, I gave birth to twins, then triplets,” she wrote.

Musk and Wilson had twins, Vivian and Griffin, through IVF in 2004. In April 2022, Vivian filed to legally change her name and gender and said she no longer wishes to be related to her father, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE.

Two years after giving birth to twins, the then-couple welcomed triplets named Kai, Saxon, and Damian in 2006. Wilson revealed in a 2017 TED Talk that they were also conceived via IVF.

Wilson grew up in southern Ontario and majored in English literature at Queen’s University, where she met Musk. She published her first novel, BloodAngel, in 2005 and continues to write. Per her Simon and Schuster author page, she’s also an active blogger on LiveJournal under the username “moschus,” though it’s unclear when the bio was last .

Wilson is one of the interviewees featured in the documentary Musk, which premieres in theaters on Oct. 16. Wilson shares several revelations in the documentary, claiming that she “learned the term ‘gaslighting’ through [her] relationship” with Musk and that he would often make her feel “insignificant” in their marriage.

It is unclear whether Wilson remarried after she and Musk divorced.

Grimes

Musk and Grimes had an on-again, off-again relationship beginning in 2018. Together, they share three children: X Æ A-Xii, Exa Dark Siderél and Techno Mechanicus.

Grimes (whose real name is Claire Boucher) is a Canadian musician and record producer who made her public debut with Musk at the 2018 Met Gala. She described her relationship with the billionaire entrepreneur as “very fluid” in an interview for the cover story for Vanity Fair’s April 2022 issue.

The pair welcomed their first child, son, X Æ A-Xii, together in May 2020. Their daughter, Exa Dark Siderél, was born via surrogate in December 2021. Their third child, son Techno Mechanicus, was also born via surrogate in June 2022, per the Los Angeles Times.

Grimes and Musk have opened up about the unique names of their children, particularly X Æ A-Xii (nicknamed “X”), who was named by the singer. The baby’s name was originally named X Æ A-12, but was later changed to X Æ A-Xii.

In September 2021, Musk revealed that he and Grimes broke up during an interview with Page Six. “We are semi-separated but still love each other, see each other frequently and are on great terms,” he told the publication.

When speaking with Wired in an interview for the magazine’s September 2023 issue, Grimes talked about trying to “build family culture” with Musk as they co-parent their kids.

“I really care about having a very good relationship with my kids. I think I understand how to be a good parent to them. Both enforcing discipline and being their friend,” she said. “Who knows, maybe they’ll resent me and reject family culture, but I feel like they will not.”

In October 2023, Grimes and Musk sued each other over parental rights. Their custody dispute was resolved in August 2024, when a Texas judge issued a final order in the case. The details of the agreement were sealed, per Business Insider.

In July 2022, it was revealed that Zilis, the project director at his brain implant chip company, and Musk secretly welcomed twins, son Strider and daughter Azure, in November 2021.

The twins were born in Austin, Texas, just weeks before he and Grimes welcomed a baby girl via a surrogate, according to court documents published by Insider in July 2022. Musk and Zilis revealed the babies’ names and sexes in September 2023, when they were 16 months old.

On Feb. 28, 2024, the pair welcomed their third child, daughter Arcadia. Musk and Zilis later welcomed their fourth child, son Seldon Lycurgus. His birthdate, however, is unknown.

In September 2023, Grimes posted to X after tweeting and deleting about her family drama, saying she and Zilis had connected and were now on the same page about the conditions under which they both separately welcomed children with Musk, weeks apart.

Zilis responded on X, “At the end of the day it all ended up for the best! Thank you for taking the time to really connect and understand each other. So glad we had such a wonderful talk, was insanely overdue. You’re a total badass and I respect you very much as well. I can’t wait for kiddo play date and congrats on baby Tau as well!”

Zilis and Musk’s relationship eventually became romantic, though it’s unclear exactly when. Zilis testified in 2026, per The Washington Post, that they had a one-off romantic encounter after meeting around 2016 but were not romantically involved when he offered to be her sperm donor.

Their relationship later evolved, but on Oct. 2, Zilis revealed on X that Musk had abruptly ended their romance.

“It’s hard to go from in love to let go in a week with no warning, but that’s just how it is sometimes,” she wrote. “I’m hurting, but care deeply about E and will always be cheering for his happiness. God speed, Elon, the world is lucky to have you.”

Ashley St. Clair

In February 2025, St. Clair claimed on X that she welcomed a child, son Romulus, with Musk.

“Five months ago, I welcomed a new baby into the world. Elon Musk is the father. I have not previously disclosed this to protect our child’s privacy and safety, but in recent days it has become clear that tabloid media intends to do so, regardless of the harm it will cause,” she wrote.

Brian Glicklich, a representative for St. Clair, also posted a statement on X, writing, “Ashley & Elon have been privately working towards the creation of an agreement about raising their child for some time.”

“We are waiting for Elon to publicly acknowledge his parental role with Ashley, to end unwarranted speculation,” he continued.

St. Clair told the New York Post that she and Musk first connected through direct messages on X in May 2023 and a romantic relationship began after the pair met in San Francisco.

“Musk was very funny. He was smart. He was very down to earth,” she said.

When she sued Musk for sole legal custody of their son, referred to in legal documents as R.S.C., she stated that Musk “has met him only three (3) times and has had no involvement in his care and upbringing.”

In March 2025, St. Clair’s legal team, Karen Rosenthal, Bikel Rosenthal & Schanfield LLP, accused Musk of “financially retaliating“ against his child after she filed the lawsuit.

“At the same time, he filed an emergency application to gag Ashley and prevent her from communicating about his actions. The judge denied the emergency nature of the application, even though it is still pending,” a statement given to PEOPLE.

Days later, Musk responded to a post from Laura Loomer about the situation on X, claiming, “I don’t know if the child is mine or not, but am not against finding out. No court order is needed. Despite not knowing for sure, I have given Ashley $2.5M and am sending her $500k/year.”

St. Clair responded in a post on X of her own, claiming that Musk “refused” to confirm paternity before their child was born.

“And you weren’t sending *me* money, you were sending support for your child that you thought was necessary
until you withdrew most of it to maintain control and punish me for ‘disobedience.’ But you’re really only punishing your son,” she wrote.

In April 2025, the Wall Street Journal reported that Musk took a paternity test and the report came back with a 99.9999% probability.

In a post on X in January 2026, Musk wrote that he is going to attempt to get full custody of their son after St. Clair changed her views to support the transgender community.

Most recently, St. Clair — who has become an outspoken critic of Musk — participated in Gibney’s documentary. While promoting the film at the Venice Film Festival in September 2026, she claimed that she had been “offered the opportunity not to speak for $40 million.”
