Titans' defining number in 2026 relies on Cam Ward's improvement

The Tennessee Titans wrapped up OTAs last week and are gearing up for this week's mandatory minicamp. After that, they'll have roughly a month off before returning for training camp in July. This is the time of year when things are slow, and there isn't much news on our timelines. The time of year when wild statistics suddenly have meaning because we desperately need something to talk about.

That's exactly what NFL.com's Matt Okada did last week when he used NFL Pro Insights to come up with one defining number for each team heading into the 2026 season. For the Titans, the number points to the improvement of Cam Ward.

NUMBER: .191

The Titans' 2026 largely hinges on the progression of 2025 No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward. Here's the good news: Since the turn of the century, the transition from Year 1 to 2 for QBs drafted first overall has come with an average jump of .191 in win percentage. Eight of those 18 quarterbacks posted a winning record in Year 2 and seven made the playoffs. Ward and Tennessee will look to build on those numbers.

With what we've already seen out of the sophomore quarterback this offseason, it's pretty safe to say that it's an achievable goal for the Titans. If Ward stays healthy and Brian Daboll can develop him appropriately, it wouldn't be out of the question to believe the Titans will have a bigger jump than the .191 we see here.

The Titans made numerous changes this offseason, and we're getting closer to seeing the impact of those changes.
