Scary Movie 6 features dozens of parodies and spoofs based on both horror movies and pop culture moments
The Wayans brothers filmed new scenes in April 2026 to ensure their reboot was as up-to-date as possible
The reboot ranged in parodies from Scream to KPop Demon Hunters
The Wayans brothers are back with a new Scary Movie which means even more off-the-wall parodies!
It's been 13 years since the last Scary Movie hit theaters in 2013, and the newest installment reverts to its roots in parodying a variety of movies and television shows. The sixth film, which was released as a reboot for the franchise, includes writing from the Wayans brothers — Marlon, Shawn, Keenen Ivory and Craig— and stars Regina Hall and Anna Faris.
In addition to the longtime cast members, the film also stars Olivia Rose Keegan, Kim Wayans, Cheri Oteri, Gregg Wayans, Damon Wayans Jr., Heidi Gardner, Deon Cole, Kenan Thompson, Chris Elliott and Dave Sheridan.
Just like the five beloved films that preceded the reboot, the newest installment features parodies referencing horror films, drama shows, comedy movies and musicals, alike. The movie shattered box office records for the franchise when it hit theaters on June 5.
Marlon previously teased to PEOPLE in March 2025 that the newest Scary Movie would "have the same fun and the same kind of tone and Wayans flavor that we gave on the first one."
Here's everything to know about all of the projects parodied in Scary Movie 6.

Scream

Since the original Scary Movie primarily spoofed Scream, it shouldn't come as a huge shock that the reboot did the same, since the Wayans wanted to return back to the feeling of the first two films.
The trailer opened with a Scream joke, and the parodies of the franchise continue throughout the film. Scream (2022), Scream VI, Scream 4 and Scream 7 all make cameos in Scary Movie 6.
"The key movies that they were parodying, kind of the heartbeat of the film, is Scream 5 and Scream 6," director Michael Tiddes told Entertainment Weekly. "In Scream, they did a very similar thing of taking legacy cast and bringing new cast together to kind of contemporize the material from the original Scream."

Ma

Shortly after figuring out that the new movie would primarily be a Scream spoof, the writers and directors analyzed all of the characters to determine other movie references they'd make — especially considering it was for a "new generation" of Scary Movie fans.
The filmmakers decided to embrace the 2019 cult classic Ma, starring Octavia Spencer, by transforming Hall's character, Brenda Meeks, into the terrifying yet humorous main character from Ma.
"Who would those kids be attached to?" Marlon remembered thinking, as he told EW. "Brenda's their mother. But what kind of mom is she? She's the mom that wants to still be cool. She's having these parties. It was perfect, because who is that? Ma."

Halloween

Meanwhile, when it came to Faris' Cindy Campbell, the Wayans brothers opted to have her resemble Jamie Lee Curtis' Laurie Strode from the 1978 classic horror film, Halloween.
Faris embraced Laurie with frizzy blonde hair and doomsday preparations as a result of her traumatic experiences. However, unlike, the original character, Cindy has become obsessed with weapons and living an ultra-conservative lifestyle.

Wicked
In addition to the horror films and TV shows mocked in Scary Movie 6, the latest installment also drew inspiration from comedies and musicals —including the two-part blockbuster Wicked and Wicked: For Good.
Brenda and some of her guests joke about the hit movie during a party at her place.

Sinners

Ryan Coogler's Oscar-winning 2025 film Sinners also wasn't safe from the Wayans brothers. In Scary Movie 6, the supernatural vampire flick is parodied with another unsettling church scene that resembles the opening moments of Sinners.
Elsewhere in the flick, Olivia Rose Keegan, Cameron Scott Roberts and Savannah Lee Nassif mocked the three creepy music-loving vampires who infiltrate the barn party hosted by Michael B. Jordan's twin characters.

John Wick
The beloved John Wick films, starring Keanu Reeves, got a chance to shine in Scary Movie 6 when Cindy fights off a slew of Ghostfaces in the same way that Wick fought off his enemies with his signature "Gun-Fu" style in the franchise.
Faris said that she didn't take the parody lightly, as she prepped "five drafts of an email to Keanu Reeves," per EW.

Weapons

One of the newer horror movies that Scary Movie spoofed was Zach Cregger's 2025 hit film Weapons.
Scary Movie included joking references to both the creepy Aunt Gladys character, as well as the famous scene of all the kids running off in the middle of the night — except the kids in Scary Movie are running from accidental weed candies at Halloween instead of a trance.

Get Out
There is no shortage of Get Outjokes in Scary Movie 6, but the movie specifically pays homage to the "Sunken Place" concept. Jordan Peele originated the idea of the seemingly never-ending paralyzing nightmare trap in his 2017 blockbuster.
When the Wayans decided to parody Get Out, they called Peele and asked if he wanted to appear in it, but the director turned them down.
"He was like 'Oh, cool.' I was like, 'You want to be in it?' He said, 'Nah.' I was like, 'Alright, not that cool,' " Marlon told The Hollywood Reporter.

Wednesday

Cindy's teenage daughter took on a dark personality as Tuesday Campbell, who notably resembles Wednesday Addams from the hit Netflix show Wednesday, which stars Jenna Ortega as the titular character.
Tuesday appears in the film looking more like a knockoff version of the deadpan character but still has her signature black bangs and pigtail braids.

It Follows
The 2014 horror film It Follows received a brief nod when Cindy joked about the title in a play on words and a meta reference.
"I tried to run, too, but it follows," Cindy said in the film, while later explaining that It Follows is too obscure to parody.

KPop Demon Hunters
It isn't a shock that KPop Demon Hunters — which was the most watched movie on Netflix in 2025 — got a parody.
During a gathering at Brenda's home, Shorty falls into the "Sunken Place," but instead of facing terrifying realities, he falls into a K-pop hole. In addition to spoofing the movie itself, the film also parodies the Oscar-award-winning song "Golden."
"With KPop Demon Hunters, that came out a little later on, and we found that as an opportunity because K-pop does so well, and is just becoming a piece of pop culture, which Scary Movie is synonymous with," director Tiddes told EW.

Terrifier

The Terrifier movie franchise — which consists of three clown slasher films dating back to 2016 — got a special parody that specifically referenced the third movie, Terrifier 3.
Scary Movie 6 spoofed the horror flick by turning the terrifying Christmas mall massacre scene into a laugh out loud moment with Cindy being present when Art the Clown pretends to be a mall Santa.
The movie made it feel even more authentic by bringing in original Terrifier franchise stars Felissa Rose and Michael Leavy for cameos.

I Know What You Did Last Summer
Since the original Scary Movie film drew inspiration from the original 1997 movie I Know What You Did Last Summer (as well as Scream), the newest rendition gave a subtle shout-out to the 2025 remake.
In a moment between Cindy and Brenda, they joke about how no one remembers reboots and remakes — including I Know What You Did Last Summer.
Tiddes admitted that he found it "challenging" to pay homage to all of the recent horror movies, as well as cult classics and pop culture moments.
"How do you fit Get Out and Terrifier and I Know What You Did Last Summer, and make them feel like they belong in one universe?" he said to EW.

The Substance

The hit 2024 film The Substance starred Demi Moore as an aging Hollywood star desperate to stay young, so she takes a mysterious serum that splits her into a younger and older version of herself.
Cindy mimics Moore's character in Scary Movie 6 by taking a serum to reverse her aging, but — just like in The Substance — the potion is far from simple and unleashes a myriad of consequences.
In addition to Cindy trying out the too-good-to-be-true injection, Gail Hailstorm (Cheri Oteri) also takes a dose which turns out to be fatal because it was poisoned by Ghostface.

White Chicks
When Gail falls to the ground and dies as a result of the fatal serum, she births a character from one of the Wayans brothers' other hit films, White Chicks.
Marlon appears as his character from the 2004 movie and jokes, "Oops, wrong movie! You were thinking it!"
As for why the Wayans brothers chose to include a moment from the non-scary film, Marlon explained to EW that they didn't "want to stay" in pure horror.
"You want to come out of there every once in a while for a vacation," he shared.
Other non-horror movies mentioned in Scary Movie 6 include Everything Everywhere All at Once, Brokeback Mountain, Kazaam, 12 Years a Slave and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

Michael
Another non-horror movie that was included in Scary Movie 6 was the biopic about Michael Jackson, titled Michael, which features his nephew Jermaine Jackson as the late pop star.
The Wayans brothers found it important to be as up-to-date with the pop culture moments as possible, so they picked up cameras in April 2026 to feature some of the newer flicks, including Michael.
"I believe that we're the first movie to parody films while the films were coming out, like we were doing it live," Tiddes told The Hollywood Reporter.
In the reference, Kenan portrays Jermaine in a parody trailer of the biopic.
"We were doing reshoots, additional photography, and we saw the Michaeltrailer, and we were like, 'Boom, here it goes. This would be perfect, and here's how we do it,' " Marlon recalled to EW.

Smile and Smile 2

Both of the Smile movies, which came out in 2022 and 2024, were parodied in Scary Movie 6. The spoof specifically references the franchise's famously creepy smile in several scenes and photos.
In one moment, Cindy notices more and more people smiling at her and gets even more freaked out when she finds her dead ex Bobby (Jon Abrahams) scarily smirking at her.
However, as soon as she hits him with a bedpan, she learns that the smiler was a random patient and that Bobby had not risen from the dead, after all.

Candyman
Candyman, the 1992 movie starring the late Tony Todd as the titular character, was spoofed when Shorty stood in front of a mirror and chanted Candyman over and over again to try to reach the character.
Instead of the famed villain appearing, a regular man apparates and says that he's a drug dealer selling THC candies.

M3GAN

Scary Movie 6 makes the creepy AI doll M3GAN slightly less terrifying from the original 2022 movie.
The film includes a scene with Ghostface dressed as the robot and dancing through the subway in a similar fashion to the doll.

Longlegs

In addition to the core of the movie, Scary Movie 6 also includes credit sequences that continued spoofing a few flicks.
Chris Elliott portrayed Nicolas Cage's Dale Ferdinand Kobble, a.k.a. Longlegs, from the 2024 horror movie Longlegs. Meanwhile, Heidi Gardner played the role of Maika Monroe's FBI agent character Lee Harker.
The scene features Gardner's character questioning the spoofed Longlegs, but in the midst of the interrogation, they celebrate her birthday as he smashes his head into a table.
"We have these bonus scenes. We wanted to put those scenes in. They were really funny," Marlon told EW. "We had to make the choice to put that at the end, when the story was done, and now you could just enjoy it as a sketch."

Nosferatu
In the final moments of the credits, a parody trailer of the 2024 horror movie Nosferatu graced the screen — except the spoof starred a Black main character named "Brosferatu."
"I think the Nosferatu scene, 'Brosferatu,' was a part of the movie, but we replaced 'Brosferatu' with Michael Jackson [Michael] because it was just a way bigger movie," Marlon explained to EW.
Marlon continued saying that even though they swapped the parodies, they still wanted to find a way to include "Brosferatu," because it was "really funny."
