Sarah Chalke expressed concern after filming the Scrubs revival with a broken finger that still hasn’t healed.

The actress made the reveal while filling in for Kelly Ripa, who’s recovering from surgery, on Live With Kelly and Mark.

Chalke added that she also has a “recovering MCL tear.”

Sarah Chalke might need to put what she’s learned about medicine from playing a nurse on Scrubs to good use on... herself.

While filling in for daytime TV icon Kelly Ripa — who’s out on an extended absence due to gum surgery — Chalke told Live With Kelly and Mark cohost Mark Consuelos Monday morning that she filmed her famous sitcom’s 2026 revival with a broken finger that still hasn’t healed.

Chalke made the reveal after Consuelos brought up a talking point about a study that showed a regular American “averages thousands of minor injuries over a lifetime,” which prompted him to ask Chalke about injuries she’s sustained in the past.

“I currently have a broken finger and a recovering MCL tear,” Chalke admitted. “I’d say yes, it would be on my epitaph. It’s one of the defining features.”

Consuelos briefly discussed his own history with injuries, many of which he sustained after joining his wife as a permanent Live cohost in 2023, including tearing a ligament in his finger, tearing a bicep, injuring his knee, and enduring a shoulder injury that he admittedly milked to get “sympathy” from viewers.

Chalke told Consuelos that, while he suffered pain, he spoke about “very cool” ways to injure himself.

“Mine is like, stepping on a pinecone, limboing, stepping out of a vehicle,” Chalke said. “When I broke [my] finger.... I was going back to shoot Scrubs, [the doctor] was like, ‘We have to buddy-tape it together.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, but I can take it off while I’m filming in between scenes?’ He was like, ‘You can do whatever you want, but you’ll be back here in two months having surgery.’”

Chalke added that, as a result of following his advice, fans can spot “a little Easter egg” at the top of February’s Scrubs return to ABC in the medical sitcom alongside Zach Braff and Donald Faison for the first time since 2010.

“During the first many episodes of Scrubs, my hand is together,” she said, holding up her left fingers to show the audience.

Consuelos asked about where she is in the recovery process now, and Chalke admitted that she “might be going back” because of the sustained healing process.

Chalke filled in for Ripa on Monday, joining a revolving door of guest cohosts who’ve sat in Ripa’s seat on Live in recent days, as the 55-year-old takes a sustained absence to recover from an extremely painful instance of oral surgery.

Other guests who’ve filled in for Ripa on recent episodes include Jonas Brothers band member Kevin Jonas, actress Mila Kunis, and Pamela Adlon, among others.
