Rosie O'Donnell is preparing to return to The View following two prior departures from the daytime program and a public falling-out with co-host Whoopi Goldberg.

The well-known television personality announced this week that she will participate in the forthcoming 30th-anniversary special of the enduring talk show. Rosie, 64, previously served as a host on The View from 2006 to 2007, then returned for a second tenure from 2014 to 2015.

On both occasions, she remained with the program for only one season and became known for her heated debates with fellow panelists Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Whoopi Goldberg.

She revealed the news, stating, "I will go on the 30th anniversary next year and be on in whatever way they want me, just as a guest." Speaking on podcast The Tangle, Rosie continued,"They're bringing back all the hosts, I think, for the 30th season. And I'm pretty proud of that show, what it's become and how it really speaks to the people and to politics, and that was not the case when I first joined."

Rosie will also return to television this month when she steps in as a guest host for Jimmy Kimmel, despite relocating to Ireland at the start of 2025 to avoid residing in the US during a second Trump presidency, reports the Irish Star.

Rosie initially joined The View as a substitute for moderator Meredith Vieira and would frequently spar with Elisabeth, whose conservative perspectives conflicted with her more liberal stance.

In 2007, contract discussions with ABC broke down, and Rosie subsequently left the program three weeks ahead of schedule following an on-air confrontation with Elisabeth concerning the Iraq War.

Rosie stated she was finished with debating on The View "because here's how it gets spun in the media: 'Rosie - big, fat, lesbian, loud Rosie - attacks innocent, pure, Christian Elisabeth,' and I'm not doing it for the rest of the - I'm not doing it!".

When Rosie rejoined the program in 2014, speculation about tension between her and co-host Whoopi Goldberg was widespread. In the new podcast, Rosie acknowledged she "had a sort of a tense time with Whoopi," while also describing her as "somebody I admire."

She contemplated their disagreement, explaining, "Maybe she felt encroached upon in some way, and I was never trying to encroach. I was just doing it the way that I knew how to do it, and it didn't go so well."

She also alleged Whoopi turned against her when she "made the mistake of throwing to a commercial when she was still talking."
