Princess Charlotte joined her family at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on August 1.
In photos from the day, her bond with great-uncle Prince Edward was on full display.
A source previously shared that Edward and his wife Sophie were role models for Kate Middleton and Prince William’s kids.
The royal family enjoyed a rare family day out on August 1, attending the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Kate Middleton and Prince William were joined by all three of their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. During the cycling event at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, the family of five were also joined by William’s uncle Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh.

At one point during the cycling event, cameras caught a sweet moment between Edward and his great-niece, as the prince turned around to speak to Charlotte and she listened on intently.
Fans were quick to notice the interaction. “One of my favorite parts of following the Royal Family is noticing these quiet family moments,” one royal fan wrote on X. “Princess Charlotte looks completely absorbed as her Uncle, Prince Edward, shares something with her.”
“Seeing Princess Charlotte listening so attentively to her Uncle, Prince Edward, made me smile. There’s something so comforting about watching different generations spend time together, sharing conversations that we’ll never hear but can still appreciate,” another wrote.

Although royal fans may not get to see Kate and William’s kids interacting with their great-uncle very often, according to reports, Edward and Sophie have played an important role in their lives.
“[Edward and Sophie] are also serving as excellent role models to their great nephews and niece—showing that you can be a ‘spare’ or even a ‘spare to the spare’ and make a real success of working as a valued member of the Royal Family,” royal expert Jennie Bond told OK! in 2024.
Charlotte wore a white sundress with a polka dot motif and horizontal stripe details by Guess for the family outing. The two prints were a subtle nod to the favorite prints of her mother Kate Middleton and her late grandmother Princess Diana. Kate also wore stripes, opting for a Breton-stripe sweater with a white skirt and green blazer.
Meanwhile, Edward wore a navy Commonwealth Games jacket and Sophie wore a colorful white shirt covered in an abstract print.
