The royal heir joked that his CD-selling days have since “dried up a bit”
Prince William may be heir to the throne, but he was recently reminded of his less-than-regal job working a “bric-a-brac stall.”
The Prince of Wales, 44, met with local farmers and residents in Monmouthshire, Wales, on Thursday, Oct. 1, to discuss recent flooding and nature conservation efforts in the area. But one couple, Rod and Helen Wyatt, had a unique story to share with William.
“First time I met you, you were this high,” Rod told the prince, holding his hand waist-high, per the Daily Mail. “In Glanusk Estate — you sold me a CD from a bric-a-brac stall.”
“Ah, yes!” Prince William remembered after a moment. “Dodgy car boot sale, yes, I remember that.”
“Still doing that?” Rod joked.
William laughed and admitted, “No, I don’t sell…It’s dried up a bit, that one. Perhaps I should reopen it.”

Helen shared that the couple couldn’t remember what CD it was that they had purchased from the young prince at the time, but it was clear that William remembered his time as a salesman.
“We had some fun ‘round there,” he recalled.
Glanusk Estate, where William met the Wyatts, is the family seat of Tiggy Legge-Bourke, the former nanny of Prince William and Prince Harry, which may explain the prince’s participation in the bric-a-brac sale.

Tiggy started nannying for the royal family in 1993, shortly after then-Prince Charles and Princess Diana separated. She remained close with the princes throughout their lives; Tiggy was a guest at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s 2018 wedding and was named a godmother to their first child, son Archie.

She was the center of a royal scandal when it was revealed in 2021 that BBC journalist Martin Bashir allegedly showed Diana a fake abortion “receipt” — alleging that she had an affair with Charles — in order to land his infamous 1995 Panorama interview with the Princess of Wales.
After a months-long investigation, Scotland Yard confirmed in March 2021 that Bashir wouldn’t face criminal charges over the allegations and that he also faked bank statements to secure the sit-down.
In July 2022, Tiggy was given an apology at the High Court over the unfounded abortion and affair allegations. The BBC was also ordered to pay damages to Tiggy over the false claims, which caused “serious personal consequences,” her solicitor, Louise Prince, said, adding that “these allegations were fabricated.”
“I know first-hand how much they were affected at the time and how the program and the false narrative it created have haunted the family in the years since,” Tiggy said at the time. “Especially because, still today, so much about the making of the program is yet to be adequately explained.”
Before becoming a full-time working member of the royal family and taking on duties on behalf of the monarchy, Prince William worked as an air ambulance pilot, flying for the Royal Air Force search and rescue unit and then as a helicopter pilot for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.
While in Wales, Prince William also visited with volunteers participating in a seed collection activity for the charity Stump Up For Trees, which aims to eventually plant one million native trees across South Wales.
