DETROIT. Mich. (WKBN) - Pittsburgh Pirates right-handed relief pitcher Kirby Yates announced his retirement from Major League Baseball following Saturday's 4-3 loss in Detroit.
He made his first career start against the Tigers, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing two hits.
Yates was acquired by Pittsburgh from the Los Angeles Angels at the MLB trade deadline in August.

In 15 appearances with the Pirates, he posted a record of 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA. He struck out 13 batters in 15 innings of work.
In 12 Major League seasons with eight teams, Yates amassed a record of 32-29 with a 3.35 ERA and 101 career saves in 518 appearances.
During his career, Yates pitched in the big leagues with the Rays, Yankees, Angels, Padres, Braves, Rangers, Dodgers and Pirates.
