Pete Hegseth posted a supportive message about his wife following her latest appointment, but the gesture didn't land as he'd hoped.
On Monday, August 3, the 46-year-old Secretary of War turned to X to celebrate his wife, Jennifer Hegseth, 41, being named chair of the first-ever Presidential Military Spouse Commission.
Earlier in the day, Pete, Jennifer, Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Caine, and several dozen military spouses gathered with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office as he signed an executive order establishing the commission to tackle challenges facing military spouses. It comes as Melania Trump's aide shared what she was doing as she snubbed Lindsey Graham's funeral.

In Pete's tribute to his wife, he said he was proud of her for "stepping up for our great military families," alongside footage of Trump signing the commission into existence. Yet numerous social media users were quick to raise concerns about Jennifer's credentials for chairing the commission.
In the replies to Pete's post, one person criticized, "Hegseth is incompetent, and the fact is unqualified wife has to be there is just ludicrous!" Another added, "With all due respect, this should be led by someone who actually has experience dealing with these issues. It should be led by an active duty or retired military spouse."
A third critic lashed out, "Well, I guess you had to find her a fake job. Since she is always following her husband to work. For some reason," while a fourth penned, "Securing a government paycheck for your wife for doing what I'm sure will amount to nothing, or you could stop getting soldiers killed for the stock market."

A fifth joked, "I'll take 'Nepotism in Government' for $400, Alex," cleverly turning Jennifer's appointment into a Jeopardy! reference, reports the Irish Star.
However, not everyone was critical, with several social media users rallying behind Pete and Jennifer. One supporter commented, "Military families, they serve too. Thank y'all for this!!"

Another enthusiastically wrote, "Thank you both! Our military and their families deserve everything," as a third cheered, "She was awesome! God's Blessings for the Hegseth family!"
In a heartfelt message to his wife, Pete wrote, "So proud of you @JennyHegseth - thank you for stepping up for our great military families. The best of our country. And thank you, Mr. President - historic and deeply important."
During the signing of the commission, President Trump declared, "This commission will provide recommendations for improving the quality of life for military spouses, so that we can better support both our military families.

"The commission will develop suggestions to address particular challenges in housing, employment, healthcare, education, child care, and just about everything else you can think of."
Jennifer explained she's traveled the world to visit military spouses and to discuss the unique challenges they face, particularly as they move their families from posting to posting.
She highlighted the group of women gathered with her beside the president at the Resolute Desk, saying, "We have the most amazing women here who have decades of experience as military spouses themselves to take a look at it.
"There's really nothing we're going to find that they haven't experienced, and so between what they've experienced and what they know, we're going to really tackle these things."
