Jordan Love partnered with KAY Jewelers on his first look for the NFL season

The Green Bay Packers quarterback tells PEOPLE the heavy jacket required careful handling to prevent the diamonds from falling off

The jacket featured more than 500 diamonds and an estimated $200,000 price tag

Jordan Love is taking game-day bling to a whole new level.

The Green Bay Packers quarterback kicked off the season in a custom blue leather jacket featuring more than 500 diamonds and an estimated $200,000 price tag.

Created by KAY Jewelers in partnership with Public School New York as part of the jewelry brand’s Love All In relaunch campaign, the bespoke anorak features round and oval diamonds arranged to resemble falling rain. The jacket debuted at the Public School New York show on Sept. 10 before Love wore it for the Packers’ home opener on Sept. 24.

“To have that many diamonds on the jacket, just to see the way it was shining, it was blinging,” Love tells PEOPLE exclusively over Zoom. “It was definitely the coolest jacket I’ve seen.”

“It was super heavy to wear,” the Green Bay Packers quarterback, 27, adds. “We had to be very careful with it so the diamonds wouldn’t fall off and everything.”

While a six-figure diamond jacket isn’t exactly Love’s everyday uniform, he does like to step up his style on game days. Some days call for making an impression walking into the stadium, while others are more about keeping things comfortable.

“I love being comfortable,” he says. “When I gotta overthink an outfit, that’s usually [when] I’m not putting it on.”

His style has also evolved with the trends, and Love isn’t afraid to admit that some of his past looks haven’t aged particularly well.

One former go-to combination in particular makes him cringe now: “pretty tight jeans” paired with high-top Air Force 1s.

“I look to some of my rookie outfits I was wearing for tunnel ‘fits, and it definitely was not great,” he says, laughing. “It was in back then, but definitely nowadays you look back, you’re like, ‘That was a bad look.’”

These days, Love has some help making sure his game-day outfits are on point. His wife, Ronika, 28, is one of his most trusted sources for fashion advice, and when he’s short on time, he’s happy to let her take over completely.

“I’m always asking her, like, ‘What do you think? Do you think this looks good? What do you think I need to add or change? What shoes do I need to wear?’” he says.

Ronika’s influence isn’t limited to Love’s wardrobe. This season marks his first as a dad to their 5-month-old daughter, Rayna Capri, and now she’s getting in on the family’s game-day style, too.

“It’s cool to see Ronika grab some outfits for Raina and put her in a little ‘fit too,” he says. “She’s got all this Packers gear.”

As his daughter gets older, Love is also looking forward to creating more family game-day traditions. For now, he and Ronika already have a special handshake they do before he leaves for a game.

“I always make sure to do those handshakes, give her a kiss, give Raina a kiss,” he says.
