Michele currently stars as Florence Vassy on Broadway in the revival of Chess. She was notably absent from this year's Tony nominations, but still took part in the ceremony's opening number.

The two also reunited at MCC's 2026 Miscast gala. Michele sang "The Impossible Dream" from the musical Man of La Mancha at the gala, and Mitchell is famous for his rendition of the song. He earned a Tony Award for his role in the musical in 2003.

"When I decided to sing it, I didn't know that the incomparable Brian Stokes Mitchell would be here tonight," Michele told the audience. "So I don't know if this makes me brave or crazy."

Hosted by Pink, the 2026 Tony Awards air from Radio City Music Hall on both coasts beginning at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount+. Before the broadcast, Laura Benanti and Tituss Burgess hosted the pre-show, The Tony Awards: Act One, which streamed live on Pluto TV.
