Kathy Griffin says ‘former friend’ Dave Grohl ignored her at airport: ‘You know you saw me’

Kathy Griffin opened up about her “former friend” Dave Grohl in a new episode of her Talk Your Head Off YouTube show.

Griffin said Grohl ignored her at an airport shortly after her Donald Trump photo scandal.

“You know you saw me,” Griffin said.

Kathy Griffin isn’t rocking out to whatever tune her “former friend” Dave Grohl put out during what she said was an awkward airport run-in.

The comedian opened up in a new episode of her Talk Your Head Off YouTube series about her falling out with the Foo Fighters band member, with whom she said she had a cordial relationship in the past.

“He and I used to be kind of friendly,” Griffin said, recalling that she even shot a promotional video with the Foo Fighters in 2011.

Then, Griffin said, her “scandal happened with the Trump photo,” referencing her infamous 2017 satirical photo shoot that saw her holding up a fake, Donald Trump-inspired severed head adorned with stage blood.

“I ran into [Grohl] at JFK [Airport]. It was at the newsstand. I didn’t want to initiate a conversation because I was so used to celebrities not wanting anything to do with me or wanting anyone to even see them standing next to me — and telling me so,” she recounted. “Then Dave acted like he didn’t know me. Maybe he didn’t see me, because I’m so hard to miss at a newsstand.”

She said that, later, the pair were “two seats away from” each other on the plane.

“Then I thought maybe I should go up to him. I thought, no, if he’s being like this because of the Trump-head picture scandal, it’s just going to be awkward,” she remembered. “That’s why I say my ‘former friend.’ Still an A-plus musician, but has some issues as being the only nice dude in rock & roll. Maybe. Okay, Dave. You know you saw me.”

Entertainment Weekly has attempted to reach Grohl for a response.

The Foo Fighters frontman hasn’t posted on his public Instagram account in almost two years, after he announced in September 2024 that he’d fathered a child outside his marriage to Jordyn Blum.

“I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside my marriage,” Grohl wrote in the post, adding that he planned to “be a loving and supportive parent to her.”

He continued: “I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness.” He also indicated he’d be a presence in his new daughter’s life.

Griffin has long spoken about celebrity encounters in her stand-up act, in interviews, and on social media. In June, she even alleged on her YouTube series that when she was a guest on The View, the late journalist Barbara Walters used to kick her so hard under the Hot Topics table that it left bruises on her legs.
