Douglas shared details of his relationship with Turner in his upcoming memoir One Helluva Ride, which will be released on October 6.

“The truth is that during the production of Romancing the Stone, Kathleen and I fell hard for each other and began a relationship,” he wrote in the memoir. “It wasn’t a fly-by night affair; it grew naturally from how closely we were working together, how much pressure we were under, how much we respected and cared for one another, and how attracted we were to each other. Like every other guy in the world at the time, I was knocked sideways by Kathleen....”

Douglas and Turner kept the relationship private, he explained, to protect his estranged wife Diandra Douglas and their then-five-year-old son Cameron.

Douglas and Turner became friends while making the sequel to Romancing the Stone with the 1985 The Jewel of the Nile. They went on to act together again in The War of the Roses in 1989 and the Netflix series The Kominsky Method in 2021.

After Turner met Diandra, the relationship came to an end. Douglas reconciled with Diandra, though the pair eventually split in 1995. Their divorce proceedings were finalized in 2000 and the actor married Catherine Zeta-Jones that same year. They went on to welcome son Dylan in 2000) and daughter Carys in 2003.
