FBI season 9 premieres Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS, with episodes streaming on Paramount+

Zeeko Zaki’s character, OA, goes undercover after his firing in the season 8 finale

The new installment moves to Mondays, followed by the series’ spinoff, CIA, at 9 p.m. ET

FBI season 9 returns with a major shakeup for the New York City team.

The CBS police procedural follows the elite investigative unit as they look into high-stakes federal threats to their city, involving crime, terrorism and counterintelligence.

The Dick Wolf-produced show left viewers with a major cliffhanger at the season 8 finale, when Special Agent Omar Adom “OA” Zidan (Zeeko Zaki) was fired for refusing to cover up a virus outbreak, resulting in him assuming an undercover position at the start of season 9.

The new installment will pose the question, “How do you maintain cover and go deep into a world where you’re surrounded by bad people and not have it cost you your soul in the process?” showrunner Mike Weiss told TV Insider in September 2026.

The core cast, including Special Agents Maggie Bell (Missy Peregrym), Eva Ramos (Juliana Aidén Martinez) and Stuart Scola (John Boyd), Special Agent in Charge Isobel Castille (Alana De La Garza) and Assistant Special Agent in Charge Jubal Valentine (Jeremy Sisto), will return to their duties.

Here’s what to know about the FBI season 9 release schedule.

FBI season 9 debuts on Oct. 5.

The installment hits the ground running, as the opener also follows both OA’s life undercover and the team’s investigation into the death of a young person who witnessed the execution of someone involved in a classified government project.

Following these two storylines simultaneously is “really fun,” Zaki told TV Insider in September 2026, adding that he’s looking forward to viewers witnessing his character’s undercover journey.

“We’re kicking off the season with what feels like a multi-episode movie, and I think it’s going to be really exciting for the audience,” the actor added.

CBS has not yet confirmed how many episodes FBI season 9 will have. (TV Guide has stated that there will be 22 episodes, but that hasn’t been officially announced.)

One of the new developing storylines will follow Maggie, OA’s old partner, as she attempts to bond with the agent’s replacement, Isaiah Green (Roland Buck III).

“Isaiah is a totally loyal, above-board FBI agent,” Weiss told TV Insider, but Maggie needs time to adjust to this change, especially given that Isaiah’s uncle is Lawrence Green (Curtiss Cook), the Assistant Director in Charge of the New York field office.

“If they’re going to be real partners at a certain point, the question is, can she trust him?” he said.
