Craig Melvin interviewed wife Lindsay Czarniak during the Aug. 3 Today broadcast.
“It’s always fun when you can interview your spouse,” he told viewers.
Czarniak was promoting her Game Day Murders docuseries.
Somehow, Craig Melvin was able to push through an interview with his wife Lindsay Czarniak — despite what he might have been feeling on the inside.
“It’s always fun when you can interview your spouse,” Melvin said during Monday’s Todaybroadcast. “Not awkward at all.”
Czarniak quipped, “Do you feel funny?”
Melvin was quick to reply, “I do feel funny.”
Czarniak shared a moment with Melvin’s cohosts Savannah Sellers and Dylan Dreyer, telling them that her husband “starts to get fidgety when he feels uncomfortable.” It was clear that Melvin did get, at least a little, uncomfortable as he attempted to bring the conversation back to Czarniak’s new true crime docuseries, Game Day Murders.
The six-part Investigation Discovery series — which premiered on July 27 — is produced by retired NBA player Shaquille O’Neal and hosted by Czarniak. Each episode follows a sports-adjacent murder.
Melvin and Czarniak have been married since 2011. They share two kids, 12-year-old son Delano and 9-year-old daughter Sybil. During Monday’s Today broadcast, Melvin told viewers that he didn’t give Czarniak any advice about hosting a true crime series despite his experience with 2017’s Dateline: Secrets Uncovered.

“I give her no tips. I’ve been married for 15 years. No tips,” Melvin said. Czarniak chimed in, noting that was “not true.” The sports journalist called her husband “a great sounding board.”
Czarniak explained that she and Melvin discussed “the process” of her new gig.
“We did talk about that a lot because this is my first time being around this type of show,” she said. “I was so just blown away by the producers and what they do day in and day out, how they get families to talk.”
Game Day Murders is a way to “carry on someone’s legacy,” Czarniak added, hoping for Melvin to “interject.” However, he started to “move on” from the topic to discuss O’Neal’s involvement.

“He’s amazing,” Czarniak said, telling viewers that she’s known the former professional basketball player since the early 2000s. “To know that he was coming on board, I was so pumped.”
Despite their husband-and-wife banter, Melvin shared sweet words with his wife as the segment ended.
“I’m proud of you,” Melvin gushed. Czarniak joked, “Was that recorded?”

As Melvin attempted to end the interview, he quipped that he’ll be hearing about this moment “forever.” (Melvin also interviewed his wife for the July 29 episode of his Glass Half Fullpodcast.)
“This was so fun to have you here,” Dreyer chimed in. “I love watching Craig blush.”

Dreyer asked Czarniak to “fill in” for her alongside Melvin during the rest of Today’s third hour.
“No!” Melvin yelled while Czarniak said she “would be honored” to stay.
“When they do the sweetie talk, you will feel like the third wheel,” Dreyer joked to Sellers. Melvin did, in fact, let Czarniak read the teleprompter to sign off.
New episodes of Game Day Murders premiere Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ID and are available to stream on HBO Max.
