Klint Kubiak picked a dangerous opponent for his first bold prediction.
The Las Vegas Raiders took a 13-10 lead over the Kansas City Chiefs into halftime Sunday, and Kubiak sounded plenty confident during his interview with CBS’ Tracy Wolfson.
A few hours later, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs had turned Kubiak’s guarantee into something Raiders fans probably wished they could take back.
Klint Kubiak Guaranteed a Raiders Win at Halftime
Wolfson asked the head coach about a Raiders rushing attack that had managed just 17 yards in the first half. His answer quickly went beyond the run game.
“Gotta be better, but you know what? We’re winning. We’re gonna win the game,” Kubiak said during the CBS broadcast.
That is one way to spice up a 13-10 football game.
Las Vegas certainly made the prediction look good for most of the afternoon. The Raiders entered Sunday 3-0 after Kubiak’simpressive start and carried a 19-17 lead into the final five minutes.
Kansas City had other plans.
Kenneth Walker III scored a 2-yard touchdown with 3:21 remaining after Tyquan Thornton’s 55-yard reception put the Chiefs at the goal line.
Las Vegas then fumbled the ensuing kickoff, giving Kansas City another chance to score. Walker found the end zone again just 19 seconds later.

The quick turnaround made Kubiak’s halftime guarantee look much worse, and Chiefs fans were there to remind him of it. “Aged like milk!”one fan remarked.

Another had a similarly brief review of Kubiak’s halftime confidence.
“Klint should have kept his mouth shut, lol,”one X user wrote.
The Raiders refused to disappear. Kirk Cousins found Brock Bowers for a 20-yard touchdown and hit Cody White for the two-point conversion to close the gap to 27-30.
Las Vegas even got one final possession with a chance to make Kubiak’s guarantee look good after all. Cousins’ last-minute interception ended that hope and sent Kansas City into its bye week at 4-0.

With the Raiders’ comeback attempt falling short, one fan delivered the message with all the subtlety of a wrestling promo.
“Know your role and shut your mouth,” he wrote in all caps.
“Not today, sir, not today,”another fan added.
Kubiak had plenty of reason to feel good about his team at halftime, even if it made for a brutal postgame receipt.
Cousins threw for 365 yards and two touchdowns, Las Vegas held a late fourth-quarter lead, and Kansas City needed Walker’s 177 rushing yards to escape with a 30-27 win.
Kubiak has already changed the tone around a Raiders team that went 3-14 last season. Sunday was his first loss as the team’s head coach.
His viral guarantee might not have ended well, but he still has 13 games left to make up for it.
